Q: When will you do my-favorite-show?
A: Show selection is a fairly complicated process, but input from
our audience is a part of the process. Each year, a playreading
committee is formed. The committee is chartered to consider plays for the
following season and present two shows in each show slot to the
membership for voting. The committee is composed of one member who
has served the group in each of the following roles: Director, Producer,
Business Manager, and Technical Director; plus two members elected from
the membership "at-large". The purpose is to include in the selection
process people who are familiar with the limitations and capabilities
of the group. The committee considers titles forwarded by committee
members, members of the group, and audience suggestions. After several
lively discussions, the list is narrowed to two shows for each slot; the
general membership votes on these shows and the winners form the following
season.
Some shows are ruled out for technical reasons; for example, Sunset
Boulevard is an unlikely candidate because the show calls for a
levitating set. 1776 is an unlikely candidate because of the
large number of men (and small number of women) required to fill the cast;
our group does one "major" musical per season and this would exclude the
larger group of female singers in our group for an entire year. The group
tends to not repeat shows, so if we've already done the show it is less
likely you will see us do it sometime soon.
These rules are not hard and fast, however;
Noises Off was a technically
demanding show requiring a rotating two-story set; this show was produced
in 1992. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, a male-heavy
show, made it into our 1997-98 season, although in the "summer" slot.
Godspell, Once Upon A Mattress, and a couple of Children's shows
have been repeated in as little as five years.
The group does welcome
suggestions
, but the large list of shows up for consideration must be whittled
down to four shows; many "good", "fun", and "popular" shows have to be
cut from the list each year; they are often reconsidered the following year.

Q: Is this the same Stage 62 that used to be in Bethel?
A: Yes.
The group was founded in 1962 in Bethel Park, spun out from its
Recreation Department. It performed through the 60's, 70's, and 80's
mostly at North Middle School (renamed Park Avenue School in 1979 or so),
with some performances at Bethel Park High School and, briefly, at
Independence Middle School.
It moved to its current home in 1990.

Q:
I think I know/am related to/was friends with someone on your website.
Can you put me in touch with them?
A:
It depends.
Requests come in often. Most requests come for people who have been
involved in a show many years ago. Many of these people have passed away
or moved from the area; some have simply not been in contact with current
members, having moved on to bigger and better, or perhaps different, things.
For current members, your e-mail request will be passed on to them; for
recent (or long-time-ago) members, we will try to pass your request on to
them if our contact information is current, or they contact us (as does
occasionally happen). We will not give out personal information beyond
what appears in a biography.
If you used to be involved with the group, please
let us know you visited
our web site. We'd love to hear from you. With your permission, we
may include your comments in an upcoming Callboard. We also are happy
to include a link to your e-mail or home page on your bio page
if you promise to keep us updated when it changes.
